The 319th Mobile Public Affairs Detachment recorded this footage showing how members of the 10th Mountain Division conduct short range marksmanship training.
Comments welcome.
Disclaimer: No training element I was involved with ever conducted any marksmanship training with or for the 10th Mountain Division. My very limited personal experience with this element indicates units there chose to conduct their marksmanship training internally only and were not receptive to outside assistance.

I was TDY to Ft Drum for a week to assist the 10th Mtn in a squad designated marksmanship training program. Unfortunately, the “expert” soldiers they sent us couldn’t even hit the paper human silhoutte targets at 300 yards and we had to shut it down and begin at the 100 yard line. We had to go to step one to teach them how to shoot and by the end of the week, they could successfully hit at 300 yards. Unfortunately, the DSM program was designed to shoot out to 500 yards but we obviously couldn’t do that since we had to start at the beginning instead of at the “expert” level. A master shooter on my team said, as we left, “they couldn’t hit a bull in the ass with a bass fiddle.” I was shocked at the marksmanchip readiness of this proud unit. I hope they get some outside assistance because when I was there, they were horrible.
