It is sometimes claimed by people that don’t know any better that there is a large disparity between the shooting skills of competition and combat shooters.

The truth: Shooting is shooting. Applications may differ but fundamentals apply everywhere, regardless of environment. Good skill measured on the range via drills translates to good skill real world.

A random example. Tactical trainers wisely point out the importance of movement. Stationary shooters get hit and fail to exploit cover. Practical competitive shooters realize the importance of movement as stationary shooters are slow and this costs points.
