Just great…

If this “awareness campaign” is so important, why aren’t these folks participating in and supporting organized shooting, such as matches? Maybe it’s better they don’t…

National Match participation at Camp Perry has been dwindling for at least a decade. Even with shows like 3 Gun Nation, USPSA membership has remained in the low 20,000 range.

I was at Camp Perry when the NRA held its first National Defense Match event. There we were playing with the strange mess that is the NDM course on Rodriguez range with the NRA National High Power Championships going on simultaneously over on Viale range.

The NDM was created to encourage new shooting sports participation. The bitter irony completely lost on the NDM organizers and the NRA as a whole is that the NRA National High Power Championships used to be so well attended that both Rodriguez and Viale were needed to conduct the entire event, each with six large relays. Now, the entire championships can be held in four relays on Viale alone.

So the genius plan to promote gun ownership now is a bunch of goofballs stumbling around and open carrying at Starbucks and the Alamo. Great…
