It’s all marketing and advertising any more with nothing to back it up. The politicians and the government’s propaganda arm, the main stream news media set the stage. The trainers that spend all of their time telling the world how great they are, rarely are worth giving a second thought. It’s the trainers that get their business and make a living by word of mouth from former students that you will get your money’s worth and learn something useful. A simple technique to seperate the wheat from the chaff is to ask why an instructor uses or teaches a particular method of improving one’s skill. If they can’t tell you why in a short understandable explanation they are just blowing smoke. If they can’t demonstrate it on call it’s time to go elsewhere. There are a lot of good trainers out there that nobody ever heard of and its usually because the choose to practice their craft and leave the chest pounding to those that are all show and no go. It’s a shame but it’s the way of the world.

George Harris: Well said, my brother. If your instructor can not demonstrate precision marksmanship–at least clover leaf at 3 to 5 yards- or, correctly shoot on the move….go somewhere else. If the training is so easy that you shoot perfect scores (points) or are not well winded at the end of the day…go somewhere else. We are training “for that armed confrontation with the Bad Guy”. Training should be realistic as possible…no AirSoft Force On Force Training? Go somewhere else. A little Ground Fighting? Now you are talking!

It definitely pays to do your research on a potential instructor or shooting school. Class AARs on forums and the like. I did a lot of research and went to a Tigerswan 5-day course a few years ago. They stressed the fundamentals, which sounded very familiar. Many of the concepts they taught, I had heard before at Camp Bullis from the APRM course!
